Talgo Seeking Scottish Companies with Supply Chain Capability

Talgo Train

Talgo ‐ the Spanish manufacturer of high‐speed trains ‐ announced in November 2018 that Longannet, Fife is the preferred location for its new UK train manufacturing facility. The trigger for Talgo’s investment in the proposed facility will be winning contracts. Talgo recently submitted a bid for the £2.75bn contract to design, manufacture and maintain high-speed trains for HS2. Manufacture of trains at Longannet could provide supply chain opportunities for businesses across Scotland.

Talgo is committed to carrying out the “whole train” manufacturing process at Longannet, which would see raw materials and local content produced within the UK. This is expected to create around 1,000 direct jobs for Scotland’s workforce, and the company also forecasts that, for every job directly created, a further five supply chain jobs could be created in the UK.

Scottish Enterprise is working closely with Talgo and potential Scottish suppliers to help establish a vibrant UK supply chain and spread the benefits and economic reach of Talgo's proposed investment at Longannet. Talgo is seeking to identify Scottish companies with supply chain capability for any of the following work packages:

Welded components made in Aluminium

Welded components made in Steel

Fairings internal and external, made in composite

Aluminium extrusion profiles for interiors

WC module

Insulation materials

Tables, interiors

Luggage racks

Luggage compartments

Textile for interiors, carpet, floating floors

Ducts for air supply (composite and aluminium)

Electrical cabinets

Cable harnesses

Talgo is providing Scottish companies with the opportunity to engage in a Request for Information (RFI) process. The deadline for RFIs is October 11th, 2019. If you would like to suggest any companies that you work with, please email and .
