Fife is Top Council at Green Energy Awards 2013

FIFE Council has been named as the leading local authority in Scotland for its work to promote the renewables sector.

The council last night (Thursday 6th December 2013) scooped the top prize at the prestigious Scottish Green Energy Awards, winning the category of Public Sector Initiative.

The award recognises the public sector organisation that has done the most to support the growth of the renewables sector.

Councillor Lesley Laird, executive spokesperson for Business, Enterprise, Economy & Planning said: “This is a great achievement for Fife and rounds off a hugely successful year.

“Not only does this accolade highlight the wealth of work done by the council and it's key partners to promote this important sector, it also shows the council is committed to ensuring progress towards ambitious renewable energy targets too.

“Fife is fast becoming a centre of excellence for renewables and energy and harnessing the opportunities presented have benefited the local economy too.

“Fife is home to some of the industry’s most exciting and ground-breaking projects. The council itself is a significant generator of renewable heat and power and colleges in Fife are also recognised for the quality of their renewables and engineering skills provision.

“The council and it's partners will continue to build on progress made and work directly with major companies operating in the sector, local businesses and the world-leading St Andrews University on further transformations of their activities to ensure that they can reduce carbon emissions and cut costs through the use of renewables.”

Established by Scottish Renewables in December 2002, the Green Energy Awards acknowledge and celebrate contributions of individuals and organisations in the renewable energy industry in Scotland.
