Babcock win contract for offshore substation on Rampion wind farm

Babcock Rampion

Babcock International has won a contract to build an offshore substation for Eon’s 400MW Rampion offshore wind farm with the work taking place in Rosyth, Scotland.

The company will deliver design, engineering, procurement and construction of the 2500-tonne offshore substation platform topside and jacket at its facility at Rosyth, and using key subcontract packages.

The round 3 project off the Sussex coast will feature 116 beefed-up V112-3.45MW MHI Vestas turbines and is a joint project between Eon and the Green Investment Bank.

Babcock managing director, energy and marine services Ian Donnelly said: “This is great news for Rosyth and we are delighted to be working with Eon and GIB on this renewable energy project.

“Our capacity and facilities here enable us to deliver and manage this complex programme. However, more importantly is the skill and capability of our teams working here, from design, manufacture and construction through to our support teams; I have every confidence that we will deliver this contract, to the highest safety and quality standards, while meeting our customer’s schedule requirements.”

The project will sustain more than 100 jobs at Rosyth with spin-offs for the wider supply chain in Scotland.

Training and development opportunities in specialist skills and offshore renewable expertise will also be in the mix for Rosyth.
