Coronavirus: Fife firm’s £2.5m non-contact temperature measuring chips in demand

A Fife company has found itself at the forefront of global efforts to curb the spread of coronavirus after being inundated with requests for its products.

Glenrothes-based semi conductor supplier Semefab has received enquiries from four customers in China for a 2.5 million non-contact temperature measuring chips in the space of just 10 days.

Multi-million pound investment in Fife access firm Pict Offshore

A Fife firm that has developed a safer access system for people use on offshore wind turbines has been boosted by a £250,000 Scottish Enterprise grant.

Inverkeithing-based Pict Offshore has developed a motion compensated personnel hoist allows technicians to transfer on and off turbines without the need for access ladders and boat landing metalwork on turbines.

Construction of Neart na Gaoithe offshore wind farm project to go ahead following financial agreements

Construction of the Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) offshore wind farm is now underway following confirmation from EDF Renewables that financial close for the project has been achieved. Twenty-five (25) financial institutions are lending money to fund the wind farm which will supply enough low carbon electricity for around 375,000 homes*.

NnG has a capacity of c. 450 megawatts (MW) of low carbon energy and will offset over 400,000 tonnes of Co2 emissions each year. Construction of components is now underway, offshore construction will start in June 2020 and full commissioning will complete in 2023.
