£24 million heating district opened

GEN opening

Scotland’s Energy Minister Paul Wheelhouse has officially opened Glenrothes' new district heating network.

Supported by £8.559 million investment from the Scottish Government’s Low Carbon Infrastructure Transition Programme the £24 million collaborative project between Fife Council and RWE has been delivered on time and on budget.

The new cabinet secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity, Michael Matheson MSP visited Glenrothes Energy Network 9 August 2018.

The minister took time out of his busy schedule to tour the energy centre under construction and meet the team involved with the project.

Update: Glenrothes Energy Network road works

Road works for Glenrothes Energy network are progressing well and work:

· started on the footpath behind Lidl on 16 July and should be completed by 17 August. The footpath will be closed during this time.

· will start at Flemington Road outside Morrisons on 25 July to 1 October. Traffic will be controlled by 3-way temporary traffic lights as work passes the car park entrances.

Work begins on Glenrothes Energy Network

A ground breaking ceremony for Glenrothes Energy Network took place on the 5th June, marking the beginning of construction for a state-of-the-art Energy Centre at RWE’s Markinch CHP biomass plant in Fife.

Today (Monday 26 March 2018), members of Fife Council’s Policy and Co-ordination Committee approved the construction of a district heating network in Glenrothes town centre.
